Friday - Friday Fun Day! Finish up your calendars (show Mr. Dwyer) and then you can either type, work on your website, make animoto videos, make GameStar video games, visit your classmates' websites, or do other stuff we've done in this class.

Thursday -
Students work on their Google Calendars. You must add a new calendar called "Birthdays", including the birthdays (with yearly reminders) of all your closest friends and family members. Then, in your default calendar, add an appointment for showing me your calendar tomorrow during class (with a reminder 10 minutes before). Also, add the Kane County Cougars schedule (baseball, minor league) to your calendar. Tomorrow you will have to show me that you can turn the Calendar on and off.

Wednesday - Today students reviewed the basic computer terms from January by playing the "Scatter" game (hint: use the Archives in the righthand side bar to view blog posts from January). Then students created a Google calendar, adding birthdays (recurring every year, with reminders) of all the special people in their lives (eh-hem; mine is Feb 10). As always, blog about your day.

Tuesday - Today is a Website work day. Students add to their blogs, clean up any design flaws, check for typos or unnecessary stuff (example: buttons), and make sure that it is organized logically. Remember: you can change the order of pages (and make subpages)  using the "Pages" tab at the top.

Monday - The big day is finally here. Today we will have the first of 3 speed assessments in Typing. Grading scale is on the right. Today's timed writing will be "Cat in the Hat". You will have 3 chances to complete it; when you finish each attempt (3 minutes each), take a Snip of the entire screen and upload it to your shared folder in Google drive.

Thursday & Friday - Today students continued watching/blogging about internet safety videos; then students visited websites of other students to comment on their "internet safety" blog posts. Make sure your posts are school appropriate (disciplinary measure still apply!).

Wednesday - Hump Day Challenge - create a pivot table that pulls out all of the assignments for which you have a "0". Then continue watching and blogging about internet safety videos.

Monday
& Tuesday - These days we used our "My Grades" spreadsheets from last week to do a class assignment (adding up all of the grades by Category). Then students watched the next Spreadsheets video to learn an easier way to do this (using "Pivot Tables"). Students then watched and blogged about internet safety. Note: every time you watch a different safety video, blog about it. Your blog should include a link to the video, and the blog post should be categorized as "safety videos".

Thursday - Today is a catch-up day. If you finished the Spreadsheet assignments already you can work on typing, your website, Gamestar Mechanic or Animoto

Wednesday -
Today students added two charts to their spreadsheets, just like in my example. Here are some helpful hints:
  • un-share the document with me before you start making changes
  • for the first graph, select cells D1 to E19 (for the second chart only select cells F1 to F19); then insert a chart and modify it so it looks exactly like mine
  • change the chart title, background color, and font by using the edit feature (the pencil)
  • resize and move the chart by carefully clicking and dragging
  • when you're sure it looks exactly like mine, share the document with me again

Tuesday - Today we started a unit on Google Spreadsheets (like MS Excel), watching and completing the assignment in the first video in the "Google Spreasheets Tutorials" submenu. My Grades Template

Monday
- Today we watched the top 3 videos from each category and voted on them (pick only 1 from each category this time). Then students practiced typing in Nitrotype again, making sure to post their top score to the blog.
